Orchestrating Reality (Hashgacha Protis) - How G-d Creates The World Ep. 3

Episode 3 continues with the next logical step in the picture of G-d’s Unity that the Alter Rebbe is painting for us.

First we discussed that G-d is constantly bringing reality into existence with His words. Creation didn’t just happen once upon a time, long ago, but is ongoing constantly. We then discussed the basics on how G-d’s ten statements of creation can be used to create each and every individual creature.

So G-d is creating you right now.

If that is the case, then that means that G-d is thinking about each and every creature in existence: where it is, what they’re doing, what are their needs, and what is their backstory. Because if He’s creating you right now, He knows everything about you.

If He is creating you right now, as well as the person you’re interacting with, as well as the wind rustling your hair - then He’s not just creating all of you, but orchestrating your interaction as well. He energizes your brain to send a signal to your mouth to tell your neighbor “good morning”; He then energizes the auditory canal of your neighbor to vibrate - sending signals to the brain to process the salutation, feel good about it, want to reciprocate, send signals to the mouth to reply “you too!”. All while energizing the wind around you both, reminding you to wear a jacket today.

G-d is creating everything right now, and putting it where it is right now for a purpose - He’s telling the story of creation and history through His creations.

This idea of G-d orchestrating reality is called ‘Hashgacha Protis’ - translated to ‘Particular Observation’, or what we call ‘Divine Providence’.
